I got to the bouldering gym this afternoon, and discovered that between Tuesday and today, they'd taken down my nemesis route--the one I fell off the start of about a dozen times, and then over subsequent attempts had conquered about 2/3 of--and replaced it with a yellow, which is entirely out of my range. (Orange Green Blue, Yellow Black, and I quite thoroughly proved today that I can't even start an easy green, so.)
That said, after four V0s that weren't all that hard--there's one I can actually call a warm-up now--and avoiding those with vicious overhangs, I ran into a new nemesis. It's an "any feet" where all the damn holds on the wall for the first four feet of height are for much, much harder routes, and there aren't a hell of a lot of them, either.
I fell off the start of that thing about six times before I managed to get to the third hold. And then fell off from there a few times, and from the hold above a few times... By the time I reached the "so tired I can't even redo an easy orange" point, I'd gotten two holds away from the top, if precariously. So. Nemesis. I keep working on it until I can conquer it, and then I pick another one.
There is something very satisfying about improving. Falling off a start five times is frustrating, but that sixth time when I get the next hold up, and prove that it's possible for me to go beyond where I had before? Now that's a thrill.
And having done all that, it's time to get to work on my Greek homework. We got our first verbs today! That's also very exciting.
