I still don't quite know how to do yard work.

I mean, I'll fumble my way through most of it eventually. There's a lawn mower in the shed, and it can't be that hard to figure out how to turn it on and push it across the grass. There's a bulk trash week coming up, and I think I can maybe get them to haul the downed branch on that day. Presumably if I remember to water the shrubs, toss some more mulch around them, and cut off bits that try to go too far away, that takes care of them.

But...trees. Man. Trees. I remember looking at all the trees on this lot and thinking, "Well, at least we won't have to worry about those too much." Trees take care of themselves! Add some water if they're looking peaky, rake up leaves and pick up any rotting fruit, call it a day.

...you can stop laughing now. Really.

Anyway, I spent twenty minutes this morning trying to sweep the driveway clean. (Water restrictions suck, but I am trying to be good and responsible.) Apparently trees shed tiny little twigs constantly. Who knew? The leaves are expected, at least. One of the trees is spraying some sort of super-small seed pods--smaller than peas--all over half the driveway. Another tree is breaking out in clusters of pink blossoms, like some sort of glorious tree pox, and while it's gorgeous--I am honestly happy about this!--I know that means I'm going to be sweeping up a lot of squishy dead flowers over the next few weeks.

Oh well. Lovely house and all. It comes with exciting new responsibilities. I think I need a rake.
