1) I am updating my journal right now because I'm avoiding studying for finals.
1a) Finals are tomorrow. Both of them. On the one hand, only two! Yay! (Though that's not exactly unexpected, given I only have two classes this semester.) On the other hand, two finals right after each other. Eep. At least there's a two-hour gap for lunch and study.
1b) I am going to be a nervous wreck all day tomorrow. I am at peace with this.
2) The cats are fine, though George could really use a shaving now that summer's finally coming in. (The cat groomer we used to use moved, and now I must find a different, less convenient one. Alas.) Peejee has learned that the top of the unexpectedly tall cat tree is a great place to crouch and glower from. George has learned that if she ignores the cat tree for long enough, I'll finally give in and buy her a little foam cat hutch to go below it, so that she can nest in cupboard like comfort without having to jump anywhere.
3) The dog is fine. She's a great fan of the roommate, and sometimes I have tiny little abandonment twinges as I realize that she was a little fussy but generally just fine during my long weekend away, is pleased to see me when I get back from classes but not ecstatic about it, and is generally confident and able to cope without my constant presence. But that's a good thing! She's clearly feeling a lot more comfortable here these days, and she's still an amenable, non-destructive dog. She is a sweetheart.
3a) Still, the clinginess of an anxious dog was something of an ego-boost. I slowly begin to understand the creepy romance tropes of wanting a Delicate Imperiled Waif to care for, because needing to protect someone who desperately loves you and is sure you can handle all the dangers in the world does make one feel all sorts of confident and inspiring and mighty, when it's not annoying.
3b) Contemplated trying to teach the dog agility moves this summer. Remembered the heat. Looked at the price of the starting kit for agility training. Decided to teach her tricks that can be done inside instead.
4) The back yard needs more work yet to look awesome, but it's definitely looking more like a yard and less like a wild space of doom imprisoned by some wooden privacy fences. (Thanks, roommate!) The lawn is mowed, there are potted plants, there's a raised bed with Real Plants in it, and I can take credit for none of that. Unless you count driving someone else to Home Depot to pick up tools. I did that! I'm going to have to put a lot more work into it this summer, though, if I want it to look awesome and/or tidy. We'll see how that goes.
5) I have grand plans for this summer.
We'll see how long those last.
