1) If you're going to write a novel where Jane Austen is the protagonist, try not to start off with her sitting around feeling sorry for herself. (Actually, that's probably good advice for most novels.) If you insist on doing so, try not to follow that up by having multiple people mention her sharp-tongued wit, and then proceed to give no evidence of such while several lovely opportunities for it waltz on by. If I wanted to read about a well-bred young woman of that era who sort of mopes around and is nervous about strange things, I would not reach for a book claiming to star Jane Austen.

2) Some day, I am going to write a long, rambling explanation of why "It's complicated" is a useful title for an entire category of understanding that indicates actual maturity, as opposed to the faux-maturity of reactive cynicism.

3) I made the mistake of wearing new canvas-style mesh shoes without socks while walking. On a day when I'm going climbing. Two bandaids later, I have determined that this was a Bad Idea, but controllable.

4) I am still all kinds of excited every time I get to go climbing. Actual climbing! With an actual friend! Who I meet up with in actual meatspace! So excited!

5) Rereading The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own Making is a delightful, heartrending process. I love the illustrations, and it's been long enough since I last read it (when it went up as a web serial) that reading it again is like coming back to an old friend. But oh, how I end up fretting about proper title capitalization when I reference it! Not having any lowercase until "a" makes that poor letter look awkward, and if I capitalize everything I feel as if my sixth grade teacher who explained title formatting is going to show up to be disappointed in me.

6) ETA: ...and I can't work out how to conveniently reference an LJ username from Dreamwidth. Ah well.
