1) I saw Pacific Rim last night. It was great fun on the robot-punching-Cthulhu side of things. Glorious visuals, a lot of really sharp, interesting background detail going on there. I'd happily see it again in theater.

However, it reminded me of just how much Hollywood is bad for young men. Casting yet another bland white dude as the lead, when pretty much every single other person in the story is more interesting, because they're afraid adolescent boys can't identify with anyone else? That's just...sad. (Heck, they cast almost everyone with speaking roles as white dudes, aside from two of the most interesting people in the film who would've made better protagonists.) I don't see how white boys in America are supposed to ever become functional adults if they keep getting this imagination-coddling. It's the equivalent of strapping them to sofas all day because they might be upset if they were expected to exercise. Pfft.

Still. Excellent Cthulhu-punching action.

2) George, after several months of never wanting to go outside, decided to go outside sans flea collar. She has one on now, but she is vast and fuzzy, and apparently she managed to bring in fleas anyway. I am now attempting to bring the cleansing fire of the insecticide god down upon the house before I need to bug-bomb the place or something horrible like that.

I do not like dealing with fleas. I wish I could find another cat shaver nearby.

3) I am getting nothing done on languages. NOTHING. But at least I'm keeping up with wordcount! So there's that.

GIANT ROBOTS MONSTERS GO SMASH.

Saw it this afternoon. It was great fun. But WHITE BOYS. (Why couldn't one of the brothers have been a sister? Why couldn't it have been IDRIS ELBA'S STORY, for crying out loud? IDRIS ELBA! Why couldn't some more of the background characters have been women?)

Mother-son! It would've been even nicer if they weren't whitefella Australians.

Have you tried the once-a-month flea preventatives, like Revolution? They're prescription, and yes, they're not cheap, but IME they work. All our cats are indoor/outdoor, and we never see a flea.

FWIW, we've never had a problem with side-effects from Revolution. Even the cat who's allergic to, well, everything including himself tolerates it just fine. (He's got a fingernail-sized bald patch that may be flea-treatment-related, but knowing him it may very well be totally unrelated, too. And it doesn't bother him in the slightest, either way.)
