I've spent a large portion of this morning trying to deal with allergens in the house, and it's rather wretched. So let's not talk about that.
What's going well? Fanfic writing, I suppose. Getting things read, if more slowly than I'd like. I stopped by the library just now to pick up two books on hold, and was determined to pick out at least one more from the shelves. I'm trying to read more books by people I don't already read. I mean, I'm stocked up already with books by people I do read, especially with the joy I get out of rereading--I've read The Goblin Emperor twice already, and mean to do a big read through all books of the Eternal Sky trilogy pretty soon--but I'm trying to expand my horizons, too. It's too easy to just keep reading the (remarkably good) books by people I already appreciate.
In any case, this turned into coming up with House of Leaves (for the roommate, not me), Finding Nouf by Zoe Ferraris (recommended by a friend), a collection of short graphic stories about Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser that I found on the graphic novels shelves, and Mind Storm by K. M. Ruiz. Unless you count Mignola's work in the graphic collection (do you really call it a "graphic novel" when it's a bunch of short stories?), not a single author I've read before in that stack.
Anyway. Classic swords & sorcery fantasy! Modern mystery! Nearish-future biopunk scifi! (At least if I'm reading the blurb right.) And possibly magic realism, if I borrow House of Leaves after the roomie's done with it. I may not be expanding my reading boundaries very far, but at least I don't feel like I'm only ever reading the exact same things that I already know I love.
