It's 107 degrees outside right now. And that's just not right.
"But Fade," you say, "weren't you in Austin last summer? And the summer before? Aren't you familiar with the endless rows of 100+ days, when you could boil eggs--or brains--on the sidewalks? Shouldn't you be used to this by now?"
To which I say that's not the point, dammit. It's an unreasonable temperature for a place to be at, never mind expectations! I don't even much like 80-degree weather, but I can accept that this is a standard temperature slot into which human adaptation regularly falls, and that I am expected to cope. But 107? Really, Austin? Really?
Besides... no, I'm not used to it by now, which means I probably never will be. I have lousy temperature adaptation, and I've passed out from high temperatures more than once before, which means it's even easier to do so again in the future. The temperature is too damn high, and it makes me sick. (Thank god for hats and water bottles.)
Now, if only Austin had reasonable environmental issues for me to adapt to. High altitude, for example. 9500 feet isn't so bad after a few days.
