A success! I got up a 5.7 all nice and cleanly, then another with flailing, that first one again with flailing... And, in a thrilling burst of ambition, wildly thrashed my way up a 5.8. It was a deeply satisfying run, despite my inability to even start on a few other orange-marked easy courses. (Stupid overhang.)
This means that so far, I've done better every single time I've gone out. Heck, this is my first instance where I got more than one course over the whole time there done fairly, and--despite much thrashing and hanging--I still did four tonight. It's deeply encouraging. Progress! Calculable progress!
Being the worrywart that I am, I now fret that I will get all discouraged the first time I go to the gym and do only as well as the time before. Or worse than last time. These things are certainly bound to happen. But...really, it feels like it's a sport that I can do. I'm not going to be scaling those terrifying 5.11s any time soon (saw someone do so tonight, and it was awe-inspiring), but, hey. Being able to take any 5.7 would be an accomplishment. Being able to take more than one 5.8 would be awesome.
Little by little, I do this thing.
